Does the Swirl have a phobic quality?
Talking, thinking, reading, writing about the Swirl experience brings the threat of slipping into that un-mind space. What does that mean? That the swirl is never very far away, that it lurks in the subconscious dark but has the ability, like a parasite, to re-infest its host? That I, or others, have a propensity to be infested? or infected? That the Swirl has the qualities of a fantasy, and thus can invade the conscious mind without effort or warning?

Claustrophobia: 'extreme or irrational fear of confined places.'
A similar irrational fear to that driving the Swirl experience, which also feels like a confined space, a prison, where some unseen force holds sway. There is no prison, it's a fantasy, an unseen and very powerful force.

Claustrophobic
images can suddenly manifest during a dream - unrealistic but vividly present fantasies - frightening and disorienting, like the Swirl. Where do these
fantasies come from? One possibility is the murky breeding ground we
call the unconscious. Another is that a memory, perhaps distorted, of
being frightened by an actual childhood trauma comes back in another
form, with distressing affect.
